The bar chart illustrates the average number of hours women in different age groups and with different levels of educational attainment spent on three major activities per week in 2009.
Overall, leisure and sports accounted for the largest amount of time among most age groups, while women aged 75 and over spent the most time on these activities. In contrast, work-related activities generally accounted for more time among women aged 25 to 54. In terms of education, working hours increased with educational attainment, whereas leisure time decreased.
Regarding age, women aged 75 and over spent the highest amount of time on leisure and sports, at 51.7 hours per week, while they spent only 1.3 hours on work-related activities. Women aged 25 to 54 spent around 26–27 hours on work-related activities, which was considerably higher than the figure for the other age groups. Household activities generally took more time among older women.
With regard to educational attainment, women with less than a high school diploma spent the most time on leisure and sports, at 43.1 hours, while those with a bachelor’s degree or higher spent 28.6 hours. In contrast, work-related activities increased from 10.7 to 27.4 hours as educational attainment rose.
