Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the task by summarizing some information from the bar chart, such as identifying extremes like leisure and sports for those aged 75 and above. However, the response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at 135 words mid-sentence. Furthermore, the overview is overly wordy and blends details that should belong in the body paragraphs, and the coverage of the data categories remains incomplete. Because the task is truncated and fails to fully report the main features and comparisons, it falls into Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay attempts a logical structure by starting with an introduction and an overall statement, followed by the beginning of body paragraphs. However, because the text cuts off mid-sentence ('at the age of 15 t'), the overall progression is incomplete and unresolved. Cohesive devices like 'overall' and 'whereas' are attempted, but referencing and paragraphing are disrupted by the abrupt ending. While there is some organizational awareness, the severe truncation prevents a higher score, placing it at a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary adequate for the task, incorporating topic-related terms like 'leisure and sports', 'working and work related activities', and 'educational attainment'. However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'display' instead of 'displays', 'spare' instead of 'spend', 'highets' instead of 'highest', 'stats' instead of 'stats/statistics', 'furture' instead of 'further', and 'climbes' instead of 'climbs'. These errors indicate limited control over word choice and spelling, justifying a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts some complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is quite low. There are frequent basic errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The bar chart display...'), incorrect prepositions ('at the age of 75 an above' and 'in year of 2009'), and spelling/word formation errors. The text also ends abruptly in an incomplete sentence structure. Although simple sentences are generally understandable, the frequency of errors and the lack of a finished response restrict the score to a Band 5.0.
