Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the task by referencing the data provided in the bar chart regarding age groups, educational attainment, and primary activities. However, the student fails to provide a coherent overview, select and report the main features, or make meaningful comparisons. Instead of summarising key trends, the text merely strings together raw numerical ranges across categories in a repetitive and mechanical fashion (e.g., '1.3 hours to 27.4 hours per week by women of age from 15 to 75 & over and who's educational attainment...'). Important comparative highlights, such as how leisure increases with age while work peaks in middle age, are completely missed. This falls short of the expectations for higher band levels.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The organisational structure of the response is extremely weak. The entire body of the writing is condensed into a single, excessively long paragraph that reads like a chaotic run-on sentence. There is no introduction, no clear overview, and no logical paragraphing separating the two distinct data sets (age versus educational attainment). Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, relying on awkward repetitions of entire phrases rather than effective referencing. Progression is absent because the text jumps randomly through data points without a guiding structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is extremely basic, repetitive, and heavily reliant on copying phrases directly from the prompt, such as 'educational attainment', 'working & work related activites', and 'Household activities'. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'womens' instead of 'women', 'activites' instead of 'activities', and 'realted' instead of 'related'. The range of vocabulary is severely limited and fails to demonstrate the precision needed to discuss statistical data effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical structure of the response is severely compromised. The opening sentence ('The bar chart are given here represents...') contains a major subject-verb agreement error. The rest of the response consists of fragmented, non-finite clause structures lacking main verbs (e.g., 'By 2009, 1.3 hours to 27.4 hours per week by women...'). There is also a punctuation and structural error with the relative pronoun 'who's' instead of 'whose'. The lack of complete, well-formed sentences makes the text very difficult to read and understand.
