Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the visual data, including comparisons across age groups and educational levels. The student successfully identifies key trends, such as elderly women spending the most time on leisure and sports while younger women focus more on work or education-related factors. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and misinterpretations in reporting specific figures (for example, referring to hours as 'houses' and misreading certain data points like household activities). The overview is present near the beginning and outlines the main divisions of the chart effectively. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, satisfying the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is divided into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing age and educational sections. There is an overall logical progression, though paragraphing is somewhat cramped and could be structured more cleanly into distinct body paragraphs for age and education. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Regarding age', and 'whereas' are used to connect ideas, but referencing is occasionally clumsy (e.g., 'the uneducated', 'the middle aged women i.e. 65 to 74 spend their most time in the cooking'). Punctuation spacing around commas is inconsistent throughout the text, which occasionally detracts from the fluency of reading. Cohesion is functional overall, placing it at a Band 5.5 to 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common phrases such as 'educational attainment' and 'proportion'. However, there are notable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, most prominently repeating 'houses' instead of 'hours' throughout the response. Other awkward collocations and vocabulary slips include 'the uneducated' and 'the working women ratio'. While communication is generally maintained, these frequent slips in word choice prevent the score from reaching higher bands. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the core information.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses with relative pronouns ('women who had a bachelor's degree') and subordinate structures ('whereas those who had a degree...'). However, grammatical accuracy is noticeably weak due to persistent errors in tense consistency, prepositions, articles, and clause structure (e.g., 'that do not had the high school diploma', 'spend their most time in the cooking'). Punctuation errors, particularly missing spaces after commas, are frequent. These grammatical inaccuracies require some effort from the reader to parse, aligning with a Band 5.0.
