Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it contains only 113 words, which heavily impacts Task Achievement. Furthermore, the student struggles to report key features and data accurately, relying instead on vague descriptions like 'teenage era' and 'newly adult age'. While the writer attempts to summarise information regarding age and educational level, specific data points from the chart (such as exact hours spent on working or leisure) are largely omitted or generalised inaccurately, preventing the response from reaching a higher band level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay lacks proper paragraphing, presented as a single block of text rather than an introduction and body paragraphs. While there is a loose chronological ordering of the age groups, transitions between sentences and ideas feel abrupt and mechanical. For instance, moving abruptly between age groups and educational attainment without clear signposting reduces overall cohesion. Referencing and cohesive devices are inadequate and repetitive, leading to an overall lack of clear progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with phrases like 'leisure and fun activities', 'sports and hobbies', and 'house chores'. There are notable collocation and word-choice errors, such as 'had given time to' and 'free activities'. The student attempts less common vocabulary with limited success, and terms related to the chart data are imprecise, which restricts the lexical score to a modest band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response shows a mix of simple sentence structures and attempted complex forms, but control is weak. There are noticeable grammatical errors and tense inconsistencies, such as 'The bar charts shows' (subject-verb agreement error), 'most females had given time', and 'wity household activities' (typographical and prepositional errors). Punctuation is also sparse, with missing capitalisation at the beginning of sentences (e.g., 'after the 50s' and 'regardless of').
