Student answer (Band 5.0)

The bar graph compares how women of different ages and different literacy levels spend their time on weekly activites. A parabolic rise and fall behaviour is observed in women speding time working from early age all the way upto 50 years of age and then it drops as the women get's older. Whereas, when a women acquires higher and higher level of education it is seen that she starts to spend more and more time working.

It is observed commonly that the women in early ages spend most of their time in working and work related activites and compared to the elderly women. Meanwhile the comparitive responsibility of household acticity increases steadly with age until a women turns older above 75 years.

On the contrary if we consider women time spending based on the literacy rates women who are less educated spend most of their time in leisure activites and least time working while as the women get more and more educated they spend most of their time working and least time in leisure and sports where as the collective time for household activities and home chores remains unchanged based on ones literacy rate.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main features of the charts regarding age and educational attainment, but misses several key data points and misinterprets certain trends. For instance, the claim that 'women in early ages spend most of their time in working' is incorrect, as 15-to-19-year-olds spend only 6.9 hours working compared to 36.8 hours on leisure. Similarly, the statement that collective time for household activities remains unchanged based on literacy rate is factually inaccurate according to the chart, where household hours range from 20.0 down to 15.2. Furthermore, the overview is somewhat confused. To achieve a higher band, the student must accurately report the data without making false generalisations that contradict the visual information provided. Band score reflects partial coverage and flawed data interpretation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is divided into three paragraphs, attempting an introduction and two body paragraphs comparing age and education respectively. However, the logical progression is hindered by confusing transitions and weak cohesion (e.g., 'Meanwhile the comparitive responsibility...'). Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is frequently mechanical or faulty. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as ambiguous pronoun use ('it is seen that she starts...'). While there is a basic structure, the overall flow is disrupted by inaccuracies in linking ideas together logically. Therefore, the response fits the Band 5 descriptor well.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'parabolic rise', 'attainment', and 'literacy rates' (though 'literacy' is used inaccurately here instead of education/academic levels). There are notable word choice errors and misspellings throughout the text, including 'activites', 'speding', 'get's', 'comparitive', 'steadly', and 'acticity'. While communication is generally maintained despite these flaws, the frequency of lexical errors and inappropriate word choices prevents the response from reaching a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional or relative clauses (e.g., 'As the women get more and more educated they spend most of their time working...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the women get's older', 'women who are less educated spend... while as the women get...'), missing articles, and punctuation mistakes. Complex structures are often faulty and require effort from the reader to parse. These persistent errors place the response firmly in the Band 5 category.
