Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to address the prompt by mentioning some data points from the bar chart, but the information presented is heavily confused and inaccurate. For instance, the student states that 'women of 75 age or above use more' in household activities, whereas the chart clearly shows leisure and sports peaking at 51.7 hours for this age group, while household activities are at 19.6 hours. The overview is vague and fails to capture the main overall trends, such as the general inverse relationship between age/education levels and certain activities. Furthermore, the writing relies heavily on copying raw numerical sequences without providing clear or accurate comparative analysis, resulting in a minimal and flawed response to the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text is organized into paragraphs, but there is a lack of clear overall progression and logical connection between ideas. Sentences often feel disjointed, and referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which data points correspond to which categories. For example, the abrupt transitions between discussing age groups and educational attainment lack cohesive signposts. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is chaotic, with strings of numbers listed consecutively without adequate linking devices or logical sequencing to guide the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily dependent on language lifted directly from the prompt, such as 'average number of hours', 'primary activities', and 'educational attainment'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'has less interest' for time spent, 'maximum less than' and 'lowest nomber of school diploma'. Spelling slips are also present, including 'chari' instead of chart and 'bacheor's' instead of bachelor's. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to touch upon the subject matter, the range is limited and imprecise, frequently impeding clear communication of the data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying primarily on simple sentence structures with frequent structural and syntactic flaws. There are numerous errors in subject-verb agreement and pluralisation, such as 'the girls of 15 to 19 year old has less interest' and 'The age group of 15 to 19 and 20 to 24 has similar spent'. Prepositional and article usage is also erratic, as seen in phrases like 'spent in activities' and 'in the high school diploma'. These frequent errors, combined with faulty attempts at complex clauses, cause significant difficulty for the reader and prevent the formation of error-free complex sentences.
