Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response sits at this band because it only partially addresses the prompt and fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, falling short at 142 words (excluding copied prompt text). While the writer attempts to summarise some aspects of the chart, the selection of main features is inaccurate and confused. For instance, the student misinterprets the data values as percentages ('with 51.7%') and misreports key trends in the educational attainment section, stating incorrectly that working individuals have less than a high school diploma. There is no clear overview provided, and the data is often misread or presented with incomplete comparisons, which limits the development of the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

Cohesion and organisation are basic, resulting in a somewhat disjointed text. The writer attempts to structure the response into an introduction and body paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. Cohesive devices are either missing or inaccurate and repetitive, such as the frequent overuse of 'mostly' and 'similarly'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas is confused, particularly in the final paragraph where the discussion of educational attainment blends multiple categories without clear separation or referencing. Overall, the arrangement lacks a smooth flow and clear overall progression between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on everyday terms like 'people', 'age groups', and 'activities'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'workind' (a spelling/typographical error), 'old age groups 75 over', and 'most highest', which reveal a restricted control of word formation and collocation. While the writer attempts to use less common terms related to the prompt, inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammatical range is limited, relying mostly on simple sentence forms and faulty attempts at complex structures. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('women... spends'), missing articles ('with old age groups', 'in leisure and sports'), and incorrect prepositions ('participating more time in'). Punctuation and capitalisation are also problematic, as seen in missing spaces after commas and periods ('Overall,it', 'activities. similarly'). These frequent errors and the lack of a varied, error-free sentence structure cause noticeable difficulty for the reader.
