Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response makes a minimal attempt to address the prompt by presenting some isolated figures from the chart, but it fails to provide a clear overview or adequate comparison of the main features. The writer lists random data points for specific age groups—such as 'Household activities 15 to 19 age in 6.0'—without synthesizing the information into meaningful trends. There is no mention of the educational attainment section of the chart at all, resulting in a partial and incomplete coverage of the visual data. Furthermore, the phrasing 'data in number or percentages' misunderstands the units presented in the graph. To improve, the response needs to select key overarching trends, contrast the different primary activities across both age and education brackets, and write a coherent summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently in this response. Although the writer attempts to use an introduction and an overview paragraph, the progression of ideas breaks down completely in the body paragraphs. Sentences are disjointed and read like a raw, unorganized list of disconnected numbers and categories, such as 'The following by second activities 20 to 24 age...' There is a lack of logical sequencing, and cohesive devices are either absent or used inaccurately, making it very difficult for the reader to follow any clear line of thought. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion fails. To achieve a higher band, the writer must group related data logically, use effective linking words to connect ideas, and ensure a smooth, progressive flow from introduction to body details.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, heavily relying on copying phrases from the prompt such as 'average hours per week women spent in selected primary activities'. There are several noticeable lexical errors, word form issues, and spelling mistakes, including 'spen' instead of 'spent', 'different compares' instead of 'differently compares', and 'fluctucation' instead of 'fluctuation'. The overuse of the word 'average' throughout the body sentences also restricts the range of expression. To improve, the student needs to build a broader vocabulary suited for academic tasks, incorporating varied synonyms to describe data trends and ensuring correct word forms and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of fragments and poorly constructed simple sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors that impede communication, such as missing verbs ('Household activities 15 to 19 age in 6.0' instead of '...stood at 6.0'), faulty prepositional use ('per hours week' instead of 'per week'), and incorrect comparative phrasing ('to compare other'). Complex sentence structures are largely absent, and basic subject-verb-object agreements are frequently broken. To progress, the writer needs to focus on constructing complete sentences with accurate verb forms, correct prepositional phrases, and a better mix of simple and complex grammatical structures.
