Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Average hours per week women spent in selected primary activities, by age and educational attainment, 2009
Student answer (Band 5.0)
this bar chart illustrates that according to age level, women are more acrively participating in sports & leisure in their teen age and it starts declining with age, but the time they are spending in household activities increased with age. Working related activities is mostly constant from age 20-24 till 64 then declined at once to 6.9. On the other hand, educated women are giving alot of time to sports and leisure, while keeping taking work and household chores side by side with a fit fluctuation as womwn with degrees are giving less time to house work than girls with just a high school and no college.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, stopping at only 107 words. Furthermore, the content only partially addresses the prompt. While the student attempts to describe some general trends regarding age, the second part of the chart—which details educational attainment—is misread and poorly reported, stating that 'educated women are giving a lot of time to sports and leisure' while confusing the data categories. The overview is weak, and crucial comparisons between the categories are omitted, keeping the response at a lower band level. To improve, the writer must ensure the full word count is achieved and accurately report all key features and divisions of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response lacks a clear overall structure and fails to use paragraphing, presenting all information as a single block of text. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as using 'On the other hand' incorrectly to contrast age groups with educational levels. The logical progression is hindered by abrupt shifts between ideas, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information. To reach a higher band, the writer should organise the text into distinct paragraphs with an introductory overview and clear, logical transitions between body points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'acrively' (active spelling/form error), 'teen age', and 'fit fluctuation'. Phrases like 'keeping taking work and household chores side by side' are unnatural and lack precision. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary, the errors occasionally impede clear communication. To improve, the student should expand their range of functional reporting vocabulary and carefully check word forms and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical range is restricted, consisting mostly of basic or faulty complex sentences. There are frequent errors in verb tense consistency and structure, such as 'women are more acrively participating... and it starts declining', 'the time they are spending... increased', and 'Working related activities is'. Additionally, missing articles and prepositions persist throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of error-free complex structures and ensure better agreement between subjects and verbs.
