Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 86 words. Furthermore, the task is only addressed in a minimal and fragmented fashion. While the writer attempts an overview and mentions a few data points from the chart, such as leisure hours for those aged 75 and over, the response breaks off mid-sentence and leaves large portions of the data entirely unreported, including the entire second half of the chart regarding educational attainment. To improve, the candidate must ensure they write at least 150 words and provide a fully developed summary covering all main features and comparisons across all categories.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text shows an attempt at basic organization with an introductory sentence and an overall summary statement. However, because the response is severely truncated and cuts off mid-sentence ('compared jj'), there is no clear progression of ideas or functional paragraph structure. Transition signals are limited, and referencing becomes non-existent as the writing abruptly ends. To achieve a higher band, the student must structure the response into logical paragraphs, using appropriate cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the various age groups and educational categories presented in the visual data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for basic communication, featuring appropriate terms such as 'average number of hours', 'leisure and sports', and 'household activities'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'attaiment' instead of 'attainment' and 'qualification' instead of the plural 'qualifications'. The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive due to the short length of the text. To enhance lexical resource, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of less common academic vocabulary, such as 'proportion', 'significant', or 'educational background', while ensuring complete accuracy in spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of simple or fragmented clauses. There are noticeable punctuation and capitalization errors, such as starting a new sentence with a lowercase letter ('according to their age...') and placing a comma before a concluding clause incorrectly. Additionally, sentence boundaries are blurred, culminating in an incomplete final fragment. To move up to higher bands, the writer must demonstrate a greater variety of complex grammatical structures with a higher frequency of error-free sentences, alongside careful control over punctuation, capitalization, and complete sentence formulation.
