Student answer (Band 6.0)

The provided bar chart illustrates the average number of hours and varying levels of education that women in different age groups spend on primary activities each week.

Overall, the number of hours women spent is higher in age group of 75 and over in leisure and sports activity, while it is lower in age group of 35 to 44. Working and work related activities had slightly lower figures as compared to household activities, whereas leisure and sports accounted for higher number of hours women spent in all age group. Less than a high school diploma women had accounted for spending more hours in leisure and sports, in contrast, they also accounted for lower hours spent in working and work related activities. Others education background had steady number of hours they spend on different activities.

The number of hours spent on leisure and sports was higher in age group of 75 and plus, at 53.7 hours, which decreased to 27.4 hours in age group of 35 to 44. Working and work related activities increased from 6.9 hours in 15 to 19 age group to 27.3 hours in age group 45 to 54, before falling to 1.3 hours in age group 75 and over. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, providing an overview and selecting key features of both the age groups and the educational attainment categories. The student highlights prominent trends, such as the high proportion of time spent on leisure and sports by older age groups and the inverse trend in working hours relative to education level. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or contain minor inaccuracies in data reporting (for instance, stating leisure and sports reached 53.7 hours for those aged 75 and over, whereas the visual data shows 51.7 hours). It meets the requirements of a solid performance by covering the main comparisons, showing what is required for the band while reflecting a tendency towards minor descriptive slips that prevent it from reaching a higher level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from an introduction to general overview statements and detailed body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate age data from education data. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as "Overall," "Turning to the remaining data," and "however," though referencing and mechanical links can occasionally feel slightly formulaic or repetitive (e.g., the frequent use of "had accounted for"). This demonstrates the typical organizational control of this band, where information is generally well-sequenced despite some clunky cohesive ties.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully attempting less common phrasing such as "educational attainment," "primary activities," and "inverse." However, there are notable word-choice, collocation, and grammatical form inaccuracies that reflect this band level, such as "Less than a high school diploma women had accounted for" and "Others education background had steady number of hours." Word-formation slips and awkward phrasing occur throughout the text (e.g., "positive increased"), though they do not seriously impede communication and the intended meaning remains clear to the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and comparative structures. However, there are persistent errors in verb tense consistency, articles, plurals, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. Examples include "in age group of 75 and over" (missing articles), "hours women spent in all age group" (pluralisation errors), and "Household activities had showed positive increased" (tense and word-form errors). These errors occur frequently enough across complex structures to typify this level, though they rarely impede overall comprehension.
