Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the chart’s subject and mention its three activity categories, and the comparison between 15–19-year-olds’ work (6.9 hours) and leisure (36.8) is accurate. However, the response is incomplete and does not provide a clear, accurate overview of the main patterns. The statement that women “spend more on householding activities” is not supported: leisure is higher than household activity in every age and education group. You also begin to describe work hours for ages 25–54 but omit the other key trends, including leisure rising among older women and work generally increasing with educational attainment. The response is 136 words, below the 150-word minimum. Add a concise overview and select several accurate comparisons across both age and education.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening identifies the chart, followed by a general statement and a paragraph beginning “looking first at age.” This gives the reader some sense of direction. However, the progression is weak because the overview is unclear, the education data are not discussed, and the final sentence (“To conclude the discussion…”) does not develop or summarise the information. Linking phrases such as “To start with” and “To conclude” are used, but they do not compensate for the limited sequencing of comparisons. Separate the overview from the details, group related age figures together, and add a paragraph comparing educational attainment. Use transitions to show meaningful contrasts rather than simply announce stages.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “average number of hours,” “work related activities,” and “leisure and sports,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, which makes parts less clear. For example, “householding activities” is not a natural description of the chart category, and “represent work related activities remained fairly stable” uses an unsuitable verb construction. Spelling errors such as “ovreall,” “womwen,” and “cas” are noticeable. Aim for precise, repeated chart language such as “spent,” “accounted for,” and “rose,” while checking spelling and using the category labels consistently. This will make comparisons clearer and more formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, for example the comparison beginning “women aged 15 to 19 spend only 6.9 hours…” and the clause introduced by “despite the fact that.” However, sentence control is inconsistent. The opening has a subject–verb agreement error (“The bar graph represent”), and the sentence about women aged 20–24 becomes difficult to follow after “figures were 22.1 and 32.7 hours,” because the following clause is not properly connected. The final sentence is also incomplete in meaning, ending with “women spend more time on house hold work” without a clear comparison. Use complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check agreement, tense consistency, and punctuation when joining clauses.
