Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s two groupings and report several relevant figures, including the 75-and-over group’s very low work hours and the education figures for women with a bachelor’s degree or higher. However, the overview is too general: saying the categories show “varying degrees” does not summarise the main patterns. The response also focuses heavily on selected groups and leaves out important comparisons, such as leisure rising with age after the middle age groups and work generally increasing with education. Some figures are inaccurate: the oldest group recorded 51.7 hours for leisure, not 57, and the high-school group’s household figure was 19.6, not 18.6. A clearer overview and more accurate, balanced selection of key trends would make the report more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Sequencing phrases such as “First off” and “Secondly” help signal movement between points, and the reader can generally follow the comparisons. However, the overview does not guide the report because it merely says the figures “show varying degrees,” and the body paragraphs do not develop a clear progression across the chart. The first paragraph moves between the oldest and youngest age groups, while the second shifts among education categories without consistently comparing them. Some linking is mechanical, and the final sentence ends without a concluding comparison. Grouping related trends and using clearer references between figures would improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main subject, including “leisure and sports,” “work related activities,” and “household activities.” There is also some attempt to vary wording, for example “pursued a degree program” and “household chores.” However, several choices are informal or imprecise for an academic chart report: “stuff,” “things,” “First off,” and “a digit” do not fit the register or meaning well. “Varying frequencies of education” is also an inaccurate description of educational attainment, and “hoyrs” is a spelling error. Aim for precise terms such as “hours,” “time spent,” and “educational attainment,” and avoid conversational expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, and most of the information remains understandable. However, control becomes less reliable in complex constructions. For example, “Moreover, Some decided to get into college and associate degree programs which spent most of their time leisure” has an unclear subject and an incomplete grammatical pattern; “spent most of their time leisure” needs a construction such as “spent most of their time on leisure.” There are also agreement and sentence-boundary issues in “The number of hours … are less than 1.3,” and missing spacing after the full stop in “per week.The.” Capitalisation is inconsistent in “Some.” Use simpler, complete comparisons where needed, and check subject–verb agreement, clause structure, and punctuation.
