Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s broad pattern that leisure and sports take the most time, and you accurately report several figures, including 51.7 hours for women aged 75 and over and the education-group leisure values. However, the response covers the data only partially. It gives little account of the main trends in work and household activities, and the overview’s claim that these are “mostly balanced with little gap” is not supported: work varies substantially by age, while household time generally rises with age. There is also a misreported figure: women aged 55–64 spent 36.2 hours on leisure, not 32.2. To strengthen the report, compare the key patterns across both categories and groups, and select accurate figures to support those comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph of supporting details. This helps the reader identify the topic and the main leisure-time pattern. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph moves between age and education figures without a clear organising principle, and it ends with only one work-related comparison. Linking phrases such as “followed by” and “whereas” are attempted, but some connections are unclear or awkward, for example “Thereby, 43.1 hours…” and “Where as very less time…”. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—first by age, then by educational attainment—and use transitions that explicitly show how each set of figures relates to the overview.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “average hours,” “educational attainment,” “leisure and sports,” and “work related activities,” so the topic is generally clear. The range is nevertheless limited, with repeated use of “spent,” “hours,” and “followed by,” and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural. For example, “leisure activities and sports are found with most spent hours” and “the other activities … looks mostly balanced” do not express the comparisons clearly. There are also spelling and form slips, such as “seleted” and “Where as.” Aim for precise reporting verbs and comparison language, such as “accounted for,” “rose,” “declined,” and “was higher than,” while checking spelling and natural word combinations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer structures, including “Most of the hours spent by women is in the leisure and sports activities irrespective of age group or educational attainment,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and sentence construction occur in “The bar charts represents” and “the other activities … looks,” while “Overall, … Whereas…” creates an incomplete sentence. The repeated “the the” and the comma splice-like sequence beginning “Thereby, 43.1 hours…” also make parts harder to follow. Most ideas can still be understood, but the limited range and recurring errors restrict clarity. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use accurate agreement and punctuation when joining comparisons.
