Average hours per week women spent in selected primary activities, by age and educational attainment, 2009
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The bar graph illustrates the information about the average amount of hours that women in many age catagories and individuals with increasing figures of education invest on primary events in every week.
Overall, it is evident that the proportion of Leisure and sports activities varying with the age of females while the percentage of women participating in work related tasks was decreasing as they were getting older.
Looking at the details, women were engaged in different pursuits. Women in household activities were rising from lowest to highest level at age 45 to 54, reaching to 21.1 at age 74. One of the noticeable fearures is that their educational attainment progressed from the least to the greatest extent. Candidates aged 75 or over showed greater interest in leisure sports.
Meanwhile,Participants from 15 to 19, they had the lowest level of interest in work duties. Those aged 53 to 44 demonstrated greater intrest in domastic actvities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response identifies a broad contrast between leisure and work, and correctly notes that women aged 75 and over spent the most time on leisure. However, the overview is vague and partly inaccurate: it refers to “proportion” rather than hours, and work does not decrease steadily with age, since it rises from 6.9 hours among teenagers to around 27 hours for women aged 25–54 before falling. Several details are misreported or unclear: household activity reaches its age-group peak at 65–74 (21.1 hours), not at 74 following a rise to age 45–54, and “53 to 44” is not a chart category. The education figures are mentioned without a meaningful comparison. Select the main trends accurately and support them with clear, relevant figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an introduction, an overview, and detail paragraphs, and transitions such as “Overall” and “Meanwhile” show an effort to guide the reader. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the details are not grouped or compared systematically. The paragraph beginning “Looking at the details” shifts between household activities, education, and leisure without explaining how these points relate. The final paragraph introduces work and domestic activities, but the age range “53 to 44” makes the reference unclear. Some linking is also awkward, as in “Meanwhile,Participants,” where punctuation and spacing disrupt the flow. Grouping the age data separately from education data, and comparing the three activities within each group, would create clearer progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “average,” “age categories,” “educational attainment,” and “leisure,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, which makes several statements hard to interpret. For example, “invest on primary events” is not an appropriate way to describe time use, and “the proportion of Leisure and sports activities varying” confuses the measured quantity with a percentage. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “catagories,” “fearures,” “intrest,” “domastic,” and “actvities.” Aim for precise chart language such as “spent hours on” and “household activities,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “Overall, it is evident that…” and a sentence beginning “One of the noticeable…” However, control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. In “the proportion of Leisure and sports activities varying with the age,” the clause is incomplete; “Meanwhile,Participants from 15 to 19, they had…” combines a fragment with a repeated subject; and “women were rising from lowest to highest level” does not form a clear grammatical description of the data. Articles and prepositions are also unreliable, as in “reaching to 21.1 at age 74.” Use complete subject–verb sentences, check that each clause has a clear structure, and practise accurate comparative forms.
