Student answer (Band 5.5)

The bar chart illustrates the hours per week was spent on primary activities by women from various age group and different level of education.

Overall, the most hours in a week spended for leisure and sports activities by older women who aged 75 and above and in education attainment it was by women who had studied less than a high school diploma.

Firstly, The age group of teenager spent only 6 hours for household activities and same number of hours for work related activities. And for leisure and sports they spent 36.8 hours per week. The adult women aged between 20 to 24 spent more than 22 hours to working and for sports and free time they spent more than half hours of total hours in week. The women aged from 25 to 54 use their average 27 hours for work related things. After, 55 year old and above aged women are shown as spending most of the time for leisure and playing games.

Secondly, the women who studied diploma did more household activities and spent less than half of time of that for doing work. These both number are nearly same for women who only completed high school and no futher education. For Bachelor's and higher educated women spent their time for work and leisure activities were approximetly same and numbered as 28 hours per week.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s broad subject and give an overview that leisure is especially high among older women. You also include relevant figures, such as 36.8 hours of leisure for teenagers and roughly 27 hours of work for women aged 25–54. However, coverage is partial and some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. The overview incorrectly says the highest leisure figure among education groups belongs to women with less than a high-school diploma; it is 43.1 hours, but the highest is 51.7 among women aged 75 and over, while among education groups the lowest leisure figure is for degree holders. The education paragraph also misreads the diploma group’s work and household figures. Select the main contrasts accurately and compare the age and education groups more explicitly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs, with age groups discussed before educational attainment. Sequencing words such as “Firstly” and “Secondly” help signal the shift between these sections. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes loose: “After, 55 year old and above aged women” does not clearly connect the age trend to the preceding figures, and “These both number” has an unclear reference. Some transitions are mechanical, and the final comparison of degree holders does not explain how their figures relate to the other education groups. Use clearer links between comparisons and make each paragraph follow a consistent pattern, such as work, leisure, then household activities.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “age group,” “household activities,” “work related,” and “education attainment,” so the topic is generally understandable. There is also some attempt to vary expressions, for example “free time” and “playing games.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “spended for,” “did more household activities,” and “these both number.” Spelling errors such as “futher” and “approximetly” also reduce accuracy. Prefer precise, neutral terms for reporting data and avoid replacing “leisure and sports” with “playing games,” which narrows the category. More accurate collocations would make the comparisons clearer and more appropriate to an academic chart summary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the response is divided into paragraphs, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Errors occur in verb forms and sentence construction: “the hours per week was spent” should be “the hours per week spent,” while “most hours … spended” needs a correct passive form such as “the most time was spent.” Agreement and number are also problematic in “various age group,” and the sentence beginning “For Bachelor's and higher educated women spent…” is incomplete or incorrectly formed. Some sentences remain understandable, but these recurring errors can make comparisons difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build longer sentences around a clear subject and verb, checking articles, plurals, and punctuation.
