Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify relevant features, including the peak in leisure and sports among women aged 75 and over (51.7 hours) and the low figure for their work-related activities (1.3). You also include some accurate figures for teenagers and women with a bachelor’s degree or higher. However, the response only partially summarises the chart: it gives little account of the main patterns across the age groups or education levels, and the overview is unclear. The claim that women with less than a high-school diploma had the highest educational-attainment figure is not specific enough: they had the highest leisure time (43.1), but the lowest work-related figure (10.7), while household activity was highest for this group at 20.0. Compare the series more systematically and clarify which activity each comparison concerns.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has paragraph breaks and attempts to organise information into an overview followed by details, so the reader can recognise a basic structure. However, progression is difficult to follow because the overview repeats points later without establishing a clear comparison, and the discussion jumps between age and education groups. Linking phrases such as “on the other hand,” “however,” and “moreover” are used, but they do not always show the relationship between the figures; for example, “however” connects the 75-and-over age group with an education category without a clear contrast. Group the age data together and then the education data, using each paragraph to compare the three activities. Clearer referencing would also help readers track which group each figure describes.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-relevant terms, including “working and work related activities,” “leisure and sports,” and “educational attainment,” and you attempt to describe highs and lows. However, vocabulary is limited and several inaccurate or misspelled choices make the report harder to understand, such as “sported,” “detected,” “lesiure,” and “woking.” Phrases including “were taken part in” and “presented lowest in chart” are also unnatural for describing data. Use precise reporting verbs such as “recorded,” “stood at,” and “accounted for,” and check spelling carefully. Repeating the chart labels is useful, but a wider range of accurate terms for increases, decreases, peaks, and comparisons would make the summary clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt longer sentences and use some clauses to connect information, but the structures are often faulty, and sentence boundaries are not consistently controlled. For example, “the provided bar chart illutrates about…” has an unnecessary construction, while “in an age group, working and work related activities least detected” lacks a clear subject and verb pattern. Articles and prepositions are also frequently missing or misplaced, as in “at age between 75 and over” and “in a chart highest.” These errors sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to follow. Build more reliable simple sentences first—for example, “Women aged 75 and over spent 1.3 hours on work-related activities”—then add accurate comparisons using clauses. Check verb forms, articles, and punctuation when editing.
