Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s broad contrast between leisure and work, and include several relevant figures, such as 51.7 hours for leisure among women aged 75 and over and 1.3 hours for their work. However, the overview is too general to capture the main patterns across both groups, and some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. For example, at ages 25–34, household time (13.2 hours) was not almost twice either leisure (28.6) or work (27.0); at ages 15–19, leisure was 36.8 hours, not 5.0, and was six times work but not seven times both other activities. The education section also ends with an unclear comparison. Select the strongest trends and report comparisons precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for age and educational attainment. Phrases such as “Turning towards the details” and “Moving further” signal a shift in focus. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is uneven, and some links between ideas are difficult to follow. The sentence about household activities being “almost twice” other activities does not make clear which comparison is intended, while the final sentence about leisure being 1.2 hours higher than work lacks a clear reference to the education category. Use a more consistent sequence—for example, describe age trends first, then education trends—and make each comparison explicit rather than relying on broad transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “leisure and sports,” “household activities,” “educational attainment,” and “hours per week,” so the topic is generally clear. However, spelling errors such as “compaired,” “figuer,” “primarly,” and “lesiure” are noticeable, and several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, including “were maximum,” “spend there maximum time,” and “seven time more.” These choices sometimes make the intended comparison harder to understand. Aim for accurate, conventional reporting language and check spelling carefully. For instance, use “the highest figure” rather than “were maximum,” and “spent the most time” rather than “spend there maximum time.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of sentence forms, including an overview clause beginning “Looking from an overall perspective” and longer comparisons introduced by “Moreover” and “Furthermore.” However, errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction, and some interfere with clarity. For example, “women spend there maximum time” has an incorrect verb form and pronoun, while “leisure and sports activities were maximum” is not a well-formed comparison. The sentence beginning “At the age, 75 & over women…” also has an awkward structure, and “Some college or associate degree in leisure & sports was double…” lacks a clear grammatical subject. Build simpler, accurate comparison sentences first, then add complex clauses once the basic structure is secure.
