Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response gives a clear overview of the main patterns: leisure time is highest among older women, household activity generally rises with age, and work-related hours tend to be greater among more highly educated women. It supports these points with relevant figures, including 6.9 hours of work for 15–19-year-olds and the leisure comparison of 43.1 versus 28.6 hours by education. The age-group account also notes the rise and later fall in work hours. This covers both dimensions of the chart and selects meaningful comparisons. To make the account more fully precise, qualify the household trend: it rises to 21.1 hours at ages 65–74, then falls slightly to 19.6 among those 75 and over. The overview could also mention that leisure is the largest activity for most groups.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a generally coherent structure, moving from an overview to age comparisons and then educational attainment. Paragraphing helps distinguish the two chart dimensions, and transitions such as “By contrast” and “Regarding educational attainment” make the relationships between points clear. However, cohesion is sometimes weakened by mechanical or incomplete transitions: “Time spent on household activities also generally increased with age.Template:” runs directly into the next section, and “overall” begins without appropriate capitalization or a clear sentence boundary. The progression within the age paragraph could also be smoother by linking the household trend to the specific age figures. Remove the stray “Template:” and use consistent paragraph breaks and punctuation to make the organisation more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
There is an adequate range of chart-related vocabulary, including “devoted to,” “work-related activities,” “educational qualifications,” and “accounted for.” These choices communicate the main comparisons, and the response avoids excessive repetition in some places. However, several expressions are imprecise or awkward, such as “the time devoted to household activities are generally increase” and “the number of hours devoted to household activities was slightly lower.” The latter is understandable but could be expressed more directly as a comparison of weekly hours. There are also spelling and typing slips, including “i9s” and “tat,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for consistent, natural collocations such as “hours spent on” and “rose steadily,” and proofread carefully for typographical errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the contrast in “while women with higher educational qualifications tended to spend more time on work-related activities” and the comparison beginning “Regarding educational attainment.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some errors in sentence formation and agreement are noticeable. For example, “This bar graph illustrate” needs a singular verb, while “the time devoted to household activities are generally increase” combines incorrect agreement with an unsuitable verb form. The opening overview also has faulty sentence boundaries and capitalization (“overall” after the first line), and “36.8hours” needs a space. These errors do not prevent the reader from following the comparisons, but they limit grammatical control. Check subject–verb agreement, use either “generally increases” or “generally increased,” and punctuate complete sentences consistently.
