Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify several important patterns, including the peak in work hours among women aged 45–54, the high leisure figure for those aged 75 and over, and the rise in household activity with age. You also compare educational groups and correctly note that women with a bachelor’s degree or higher record the most work-related hours, while the least-educated group spends the most time on leisure. This covers the main parts of the chart, but some details are unclear or inaccurate: the work peak is also 27.0 hours for ages 25–34, and the statement that household hours rise with age needs the exception at 75 and over. The education comparison for household activity is also misreported: the highest figure is for women with less than a high school diploma, not degree holders. More precise comparisons and a clearer overview would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on age, and a final paragraph on education. This gives the reader a logical route through the two sets of categories, and linking phrases such as “Regarding age” and “Furthermore” help signal shifts. The overview also attempts to bring together the main trends. However, some connections are awkward or unclear, particularly “those with less than a high school diploma had” at the end of the overview, which leaves the comparison incomplete. The final paragraph combines work and household activity in a way that obscures the intended point. Make each paragraph’s focus explicit and use references that clearly identify the group being discussed.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “categorized,” “qualification,” “decreased drastically,” “rising significantly,” and “educational attainment.” These choices allow you to describe trends and distinguish the chart’s categories. Some wording is imprecise or unnatural, however: “hours invested” and “hours contributed work related” do not fit the chart’s meaning or collocate naturally, while “actions” is vague for activities. There are also inconsistent forms such as “bachelors degree,” and “amounting to” is used where a simpler expression would be clearer. Aim for accurate, conventional chart language and avoid forcing formal-sounding phrases when a direct term such as “spent” or “recorded” is more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a contrast with “However” and a time sequence using “before rising,” and most of the meaning remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, especially in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “the amount of hours have increase steadily” should use a singular verb and the correct participle, and “the hours have decreased from 36.8 hours in 15 to 27.4 hours by 44” needs clearer age-group phrasing. The overview sentence beginning “However by 75 and over” is also difficult to follow because its clauses are not connected clearly. Check subject–verb agreement and build comparisons in complete, parallel clauses; this will make your complex sentences more controlled.
