Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You report many figures from both the age and education sections, so the response is relevant and shows an effort to cover the chart. However, it mainly lists values rather than summarising the main features, and there is no clear overview of the broad patterns—for example, that leisure rises markedly among older women while work peaks in middle age, or that higher educational attainment is associated with more work and less leisure. Several figures are also inaccurate: 45–54 work is 27.0, not 27.3; the 75-and-over household figure is 19.6, not 19.5; and the household figures for high-school graduates and some college are 19.6 and 16.7, not 18.6 and 18.7. Select key comparisons and report them accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response follows the chart’s two categories in a recognisable order, moving through age groups and then educational attainment. This gives the reader some sense of sequence. However, the repeated opening “If we look at…” makes the account mechanical, and the long paragraph presents one figure after another without grouping related information or signalling the most important comparisons. There is also no separate overview to guide the reader. Organise the response into an introduction, a concise overview, and paragraphs comparing the age and education data. Use linking language to show trends, such as “by contrast” or “while,” rather than repeating the same frame for each group.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “working,” “sports,” “household activities,” “age,” and “education,” and the reader can generally identify which activity each figure refers to. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural for describing time and data. For example, “6.9 ratio” and “27 percent times females working” do not clearly express hours per week, while “girls” is unsuitable for adult women. Repeated use of “spend their time” also makes the report less precise. Use the chart’s unit consistently and choose concise reporting phrases such as “spent 27 hours per week on work-related activities” or “the figure for leisure.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to use longer sentences to report several activities together, but sentence structures are repetitive and control is inconsistent. Agreement errors occur in phrases such as “females spends” and “27.4 percent time spend,” while missing articles and awkward sentence construction appear in “Above charts shows” and “If we look age between 25-34.” Commas and spacing around age ranges are also inconsistent, and many clauses are joined into lengthy sentences. These errors do not usually prevent the reader from following the figures, but they reduce clarity. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build shorter, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb before adding more varied structures.
