Student answer (Band 5.5)

The bar chart provides the information of women groups spending average hours of their day on various activities like working , free time/Sports or Household activities. The groups are divided into teenage women from age15-19, then young women groups from age 20-24,25-34 then mid age women from age 35-44. More groups are about elderly women from age 45-54,55-64,65-74 and 75 or more. The teenage group spend most of their being free or playing sports than working or household activities. The younger women group from age 20-24 also spends most of their time on leisure/sports than doing house chores or work. Women from age 25-34,35-44 and 445-54 spend almost equal time on work and leisure/sports than household activities. Women older than 54 spend almost all their time being free or doing fun activities and almost no work in their daily life.

After that we have the information about the groups if women aged 25 or plus based on their education level like less than high school diploma, high school graduates,College degree and Bachelor's degree or more. Here the chart show that women who have graduated or not graduated from highschool are spending most of their time on leisure/sports. Women with college degree are also mostly being free but also doing work in daily than doing househould activities. Lastly women having bachelor's degree or more education are spending equal time on their work and leisure and doing very little house chores.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two chart groupings and report the broad pattern that leisure is prominent, while work and household activities vary with age and education. However, the response only partially summarises the data: it gives almost no figures and misses key comparisons, such as leisure rising to 51.7 hours among women aged 75 and over, and work peaking around 27 hours for women aged 25–54. Some claims are inaccurate or too broad: women aged 25–54 do not spend almost equal time on work and leisure in every group, and women over 54 do not spend “almost all” their time on leisure or do almost no work, particularly those aged 55–64. The education section also misstates the degree groups as spending equal time on work and leisure. Select a few precise comparisons and give a clear overview of the main trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it first discusses age groups and then educational attainment, with a paragraph break marking the shift. This makes the two parts of the chart easy to distinguish. However, progression within each section is sometimes list-like, and the opening spends considerable space naming age categories rather than summarising the main patterns. Linking phrases such as “After that” and “Lastly” help signal sequence, but they do not always show how the data relate or contrast. Clearer topic sentences and grouping related figures—for example, comparing the rise and later fall in work hours with the opposite pattern in leisure—would create stronger progression. Use references such as “this figure” or “by contrast” carefully to connect comparisons rather than simply moving from one group to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the general subject, including “leisure/sports,” “household activities,” “education level,” and “high school diploma.” However, the range is limited and several informal or imprecise expressions are repeated, such as “being free,” “fun activities,” and “house chores.” These are not suitable substitutes for the chart’s categories and can make the description sound vague. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “househould” and “highschool,” alongside awkward collocations such as “information of women groups.” Aim for concise, accurate chart language: use “spent time on leisure and sports,” “domestic activities,” and “women aged 25 and over.” This would make the account more precise and appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the reader can generally follow the intended meaning. However, the range is limited, and errors recur in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “The groups are divided into teenage women from age15-19” is awkwardly structured, while “the chart show” and “Women with college degree” show agreement and article problems. The sentence beginning “Women from age 25-34…” also contains a malformed age range (“445-54”) and an unclear comparison structure. Spacing around punctuation is inconsistent, and several long sentences would benefit from clearer clause boundaries. Practise accurate patterns such as “Women aged 25–34 spent…” and “The chart shows that…” before attempting more complex comparisons.
