Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies a relevant overall contrast: leisure is highest among women aged 75 and over, while work is low in this group, and it includes several accurate leisure figures, such as 51.7 and 44.0 hours. However, the overview is incomplete and sometimes inaccurate: household activity is not at a “normal” level across ages, rising from 6.0 hours among 15–19-year-olds to 21.1 among those aged 65–74. The response also omits the education data and gives little information about work or household trends. The final household comparison is unfinished. At 124 words, it is 26 words below the required minimum; this limits the coverage and development of the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to age-group details, and the examples about leisure are grouped together. However, progression is limited: most of the body focuses on leisure, then shifts abruptly to household activities, with no clear comparison across all three categories or the education groups. The final sentence, “Age group 45 to 54 have 17.3,” is incomplete and leaves the reader unsure what is being compared. Linking phrases such as “whereas” help signal contrast, but the relationships between points are not consistently clear. Organise the body into purposeful comparisons—for example, age patterns first and education patterns second—and complete each comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “age group,” “leisure and sports,” and “working and work related activities,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or imprecise: “highest percentage” is unsuitable because the chart reports hours, not percentages, and “normal percentage” does not communicate a clear comparison. Repetition of “age group” and “activities” also makes the description less flexible. Spelling errors such as “activies,” “sprots,” and “indiviuals” are noticeable and reduce clarity. Use precise terms such as “hours per week,” “the highest figure,” and “household chores/activities,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates some basic comparisons through simple clauses, and the opening attempts a more complex sentence with “compares … and how much hours.” However, sentence structures are limited, and errors recur in agreement, articles, and sentence formation. For example, “the primary activities every week performs by women” has an incorrect clause structure, while “20 to 24 age individual are” has problems with number and agreement. The phrase “Household activities young indiviuals age group have lowest…” is also difficult to parse, and the final line is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. Practise clear patterns such as “Women aged 15–19 spent…” and “The figure for household activities rose to…,” checking that each sentence has a subject and finite verb.
