Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response identifies the chart’s broad subject and attempts an overview, but it reports very little of the actual data, so the main features are not adequately summarised. The claim that leisure and sports had the “maximum number” is unclear and does not compare this category accurately with work and household activities across the groups. The age-group paragraph mainly speculates about education, employment and lifestyle rather than describing the figures; for example, leisure rises to 51.7 hours among women aged 75 and over, while work falls to 1.3 hours. The education paragraph gives one relevant comparison, but omits the clear pattern that work increases and leisure and household time generally decrease with higher attainment. Select key trends and support them with accurate figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for age and education. The transitions “Regarding the age groups” and “A similar pattern” help signal the topic of each paragraph. However, progression within the paragraphs is weak because the age discussion shifts to unsupported explanations rather than comparing chart data, and the overview’s relationship between leisure and work is difficult to follow. The final paragraph ends without a clear concluding comparison. Build each body paragraph around a specific trend, then order the comparisons logically and use linking phrases to show contrasts, such as “by comparison” or “whereas.” This would make the organisation more coherent and the connections between ideas clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “age groups,” “educational qualifications,” and “household responsibilities,” and attempts more formal phrasing such as “contrasting patterns.” However, the range is limited and several spelling errors make the writing less clear: “leasure,” “responcibilities,” “propotion,” and “employement.” Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, including “had high number” and “maximum number by the working.” Use the chart’s category labels consistently and choose precise terms for quantities and comparisons. Careful proofreading of spelling and collocations would improve clarity and make the vocabulary more suitable for an academic summary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

There is some sentence variety, including a complex sentence beginning “Women in younger categories are likely to…” and a comparison introduced by “when women are classified…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but grammatical control is uneven. The opening sentence has an awkward structure (“illustrates about average number of hours”) and lacks a clear article before “average number.” In “The less than a high school diploma and high school graduates … had high number,” the subject is not formed correctly and the singular “number” needs an article or plural form. Punctuation spacing is also inconsistent, with spaces before commas and full stops. Aim for direct sentence patterns, check articles and subject–verb relationships, and proofread punctuation.
