Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and give an overview of leisure patterns by education, noting that women with less education spend the most time on leisure and those with a bachelor’s degree or higher the least. Some supporting figures are accurate, including 51.7 hours for women aged 75 and over and 36.8 for those aged 15–19. However, the response covers only part of the data: it gives little account of the education figures beyond the overview and omits the older age groups’ work and household patterns. There are also important inaccuracies: the chart reports hours, not percentages, and the 25–34 group is incorrectly called 25–30. Develop the overview to compare all three activities and support it with representative figures from both categories.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable introduction, overview and detail paragraphs, and phrases such as “To start with” help signal a move into examples. However, the progression is limited: the detail paragraph moves through selected age groups but stops before covering the older groups, while the education comparison is not developed after the overview. Connections between figures are sometimes unclear, particularly in the sentence listing the 20–24 group’s leisure, work and household values. The final paragraph adds another age comparison without linking it to a broader pattern. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, one paragraph on age and another on education—and use linking language to show trends rather than presenting isolated figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “primary activities,” “leisure and sports,” “household tasks” and “work life and leisure balance.” This is adequate for describing the chart, and the main meaning is generally understandable. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal, however: “secured a second spot” is not a natural way to describe the data, and “enjoying or playing sports” does not precisely represent the chart’s leisure-and-sports category. Spelling errors such as “activites,” “hosehold” and “lesisure” also reduce accuracy. Prefer neutral, precise reporting language and check spelling; for example, describe women as “spending” a number of hours on an activity rather than using percentage language or conversational expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the opening overview is generally understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction occur often enough to make some details harder to follow. For example, “The age group 15 to 19 spend” should use a singular verb, while “The women between aged 20 to 24 year spend” has an incorrect construction and number agreement. The sentence beginning “The age group 25 to 30 able maintain” is missing a verb form, and several clauses run together without clear punctuation. Work on consistent past-tense reporting, singular/plural agreement, and complete sentence boundaries. Shorter, carefully checked sentences would improve control while you continue to practise complex structures.
