Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies the chart’s broad subject and gives an overview that leisure takes the most time across both groupings. However, it does not summarise the main data in any meaningful detail: there are no figures, comparisons between age groups or education levels, or descriptions of the contrasting patterns in work and household activities. For example, work rises to around 27 hours among women aged 25–54 before falling sharply in older groups, while household time generally increases with age. The claim that household activities were the least time-consuming “before the retirement age” is too broad and does not accurately capture the education categories. At 67 words, the response is also well below the required 150. Select and report several key comparisons to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, understandable order: it introduces the chart and then gives an overall statement, with “Overall” signalling the shift to the summary. This provides some organisation, but the answer is too brief to show a clear progression through the chart’s age and education data. The overview is also compressed into one sentence, and there are no supporting details or comparisons to connect. Develop separate paragraphs for the overview and the main comparisons, and use clear links such as “By contrast” or “Among women with higher education” to guide the reader. Check spacing after punctuation, as in “Overall, time,” which currently makes the transition less polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “average time,” “age categories,” “education level,” and “leisure activities,” so the subject is generally clear. There is also an attempt at more formal phrasing in “time consumption.” However, some expressions are awkward or imprecise: “three different tasks” is less suitable for activities, “house chores” is not the most natural chart description, and “the less time consuming” is an inaccurate form for the intended superlative. “Females” is understandable but “women” would match the chart and task more naturally. The limited response offers little evidence of range across the data. Use precise terms such as “hours spent,” “household activities,” and “the least time-consuming,” then vary language when describing increases, falls and comparisons.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response communicates its basic meaning through two complete sentences and attempts a complex overview using “while.” However, grammatical control is uneven. In the opening sentence, “tasks that includes” has a subject–verb agreement error; the relative clause refers to plural “tasks,” so it should be “that include,” or the sentence could be recast. The phrase “Overall, time consumption” also needs a space after the comma. In the second sentence, “the less time consuming” does not form the intended superlative; use “the least time-consuming.” The sentence structures are otherwise simple, and the short sample does not demonstrate a wider range. Practise accurate agreement, comparative forms and punctuation while building longer sentences to report specific chart trends.
