Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify the three activity categories and give a broad overview that leisure and sport takes the largest share of time, which is relevant to the chart. However, the response reports almost none of the key comparisons across age groups or education levels, so the main features are not adequately summarised. The statement that women with less than a diploma spent “42.1 percent” is inaccurate: the chart gives 43.1 hours per week for leisure and sport, and the unit is hours, not a percentage. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the task incomplete. To improve, include accurate figures and contrasts, such as leisure rising to 51.7 hours among women aged 75 and over, and work peaking around 27 hours among women aged 25–54.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence identifies the chart, followed by an overview and then a detail about educational attainment. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, the final paragraph is incomplete and does not develop into a clear comparison, while the overview’s ranking of the activities is not consistently true across all groups. The very short response also prevents a logical progression through the age and education data. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and for selected comparisons, and connect them with clear references such as “By contrast” or “Among the age groups.” Ensure each paragraph develops one complete point rather than ending with an isolated figure.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “average,” “age group,” “level of education,” and “activities,” and you attempt to name the categories. However, spelling errors and inaccurate or unnatural word choices make parts of the response difficult to interpret: “ilustrates,” “priamary,” and “lesiure” are examples, while “second number” and “third postion” are not suitable descriptions of the data. “42.1 percent” also uses the wrong unit and does not accurately report the figure. Aim for precise, repeated chart language such as “hours per week,” “spent on,” “the highest figure,” and “household activities.” Proofreading spelling and choosing standard collocations will make your meaning clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both a longer introductory sentence and an overview sentence, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “the average hour women spent” needs a plural noun and a clearer clause structure, while “women according to education attainment, aged 25 and over having…” is not a complete, well-formed sentence. The overview also contains a fragment beginning “while,” and spacing and punctuation are unreliable. These problems make relationships between ideas unclear. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, for example, “Women aged 75 and over spent the most time on leisure and sport.” Use a consistent past-tense reporting pattern and check articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries.
