Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the chart’s subject and mentions the three activity categories, but it does not provide a usable overview or adequately summarise the main patterns. The claim that household activities are highest at age 25 is inaccurate: they rise to 21.1 hours among women aged 65–74, then fall slightly. Work-related hours generally rise to around ages 25–54 before declining, so this is only partly captured. Leisure, the largest activity for most older groups, is not described at all, and the education data are omitted. The response is also 91 words, below the required 150, which leaves the task substantially incomplete. To improve, report the key trends across both age and education groups and support them with accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic sequence: the opening identifies the chart, the next sentence names its categories, and the final sentences attempt to describe trends. However, the response does not develop into a clear summary, and the abrupt ending, “future i don't now how to express it,” interrupts the progression rather than concluding it. Connections such as “Similarly” do not establish a meaningful relationship between the work and household trends. The description of the legend also takes space without helping organise the data. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the main comparisons, and connect each point with clear references to age or education. This would give the reader a more coherent route through the information.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “average hours per week,” “working and work related activities,” and “household activities,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is narrow and several word choices or spellings reduce clarity, such as “leasuire,” “tye,” and “blank” for the chart’s bar shading. Phrases such as “increase upto the age of 54” and “maximum at the age of 25” are imprecise for describing trends and comparisons. Aim for accurate terms such as “rose,” “peaked,” “declined,” and “accounted for,” and use “bars” rather than “lines.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise data-description vocabulary would make the account clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response communicates a few simple observations, but sentence structures are mostly basic and control is inconsistent. For example, “The age group start from 15 years to 75years and above” has subject–verb agreement and phrasing problems, while “the other is light grey which show” contains an agreement error and an unclear clause structure. The sentence beginning “The working and work related activities increase” shifts into present tense, and the final phrase “future i don't now how to express it” is not an appropriate complete sentence for a report. Use past tense consistently for the 2009 data, check singular and plural verb forms, and practise combining comparisons into accurate complex sentences. More controlled sentence patterns would help express the trends.
