Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify a broad contrast between leisure and work, and you attempt an overview by referring to teenagers, older women and educational attainment. However, the response addresses the chart only minimally: it gives no specific figures and reports almost none of the key comparisons across the age groups. The claim that work decreases and leisure increases among women with less than a high-school diploma is not supported by the chart; those figures compare education levels, and the pattern is the reverse as education rises. The overview also overlooks household activities. The response is 81 words, below the required 150. To improve, describe the main age-related trends and the education-related contrasts, supporting them with accurate figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic overall shape: an opening sentence introduces the chart, followed by a paragraph beginning “Overall” that attempts to summarise its main message. The contrast between leisure and work gives the reader a starting point. However, there is no clear progression from an overview to selected details, and the second sentence combines age-group observations with an education trend without explaining how they relate. The linking phrase “in contract” is also used where a clear contrast is intended. Organise the report into an introduction, a concise overview, and detail paragraphs comparing age groups and educational levels; use linking expressions to show those comparisons explicitly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “Leisure and sports,” “working and work related activities,” and “high school diploma,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “median number of hours,” “on daily basis activities,” and “least famous.” “Illustrats,” “activies,” and “contract” also show spelling or word-form problems that make parts of the report harder to understand. Use precise terms for the data, such as “average hours per week,” and describe popularity as time spent rather than as fame. A wider set of accurate comparison verbs and trend phrases would help you report the chart more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt more than one sentence pattern, including an opening clause and a contrast in the overview, and the reader can infer the general topic. However, sentence structures are limited and several grammatical problems affect clarity. The opening, “The bar chart illustrats that on each week, how much…,” is not a complete, well-formed indirect question. In “Overall, in 2009 Leisure and sports is…,” the tense is inconsistent with the past date, while “activities were seen decreased” uses an incorrect verb pattern. The phrase “those who have less than a high school diploma” also leaves the comparison unclear. Practise complete reporting sentences, past-tense forms, and patterns such as “spending on X increased/decreased.”
