Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies the chart’s general subject and attempts an overview, but it reports very few accurate key features and does not compare the age and education groups. Some claims are incorrect: women aged 35–44 do not spend the least time overall in the activities shown, and women aged 45–54 are not the group with the highest work-related figure; the peak is among women with a bachelor’s degree or higher. The statement that women aged 15–19 do household activities is also misleading, as their household figure is the lowest, not a dominant activity. The response is 111 words, below the 150-word minimum, and 9 copied prompt words were excluded. Add accurate comparisons and supporting figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and then moving to an overall summary. However, the ideas do not progress clearly: the overview shifts between leisure, household tasks and work without a consistent comparison or grouping. Repeated phrasing such as “the womens” and “overall” makes the paragraph feel repetitive, while the long final sentence joins several claims without clearly showing how they relate. A clearer structure would separate a concise overview from details, then compare age groups and educational levels in a logical order. Use linking expressions to show contrasts, such as “by comparison” or “whereas,” rather than listing observations loosely.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “average number of hours,” “age groups,” “education,” “household activities” and “work related activities,” so the reader can recognise the subject. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward, which makes the meaning less clear. For example, “involves in sports and leisure activities” is not a natural way to describe time spent, and “small amount overall” is vague. There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “varrying,” “womens” and “woens.” Aim for precise chart language such as “spent,” “recorded,” “highest” and “lowest,” and use the activity labels consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, and the opening sentence communicates the chart’s topic. However, the structures are limited, and errors recur in agreement, verb forms and sentence construction. For instance, “women … is spent” does not form a correct clause, while “the womens … are involves” and “the womens … participates” contain agreement and verb-form problems. The phrase “women of over 75 or of 75” is also structurally unclear. These errors sometimes make the intended comparisons difficult to follow. Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, for example, “Women aged 75 and over spent the most time on leisure.” Check agreement and use “aged” to introduce age groups.
