Student answer (Band 5.0)

The given bar chart illustrates the number of hours that women in various age groups and women with a variety of education spend on primary activities like working, sports, or household.

Women in there young age group between 15 and 19 tend to spend more time on leisure and sports. That is, they tend to spend an average of 36.8 hours per week. Women between the age of 20 and 27, they spend similar hours on work-related activities and sports, on an average 22 and 27. Women belonging to the age group from 45 and above spend more time on leisure and sports rather than working activities or household activities.

The maximum working hours for work-related activities were for women who had a bachelor's degree and more. The maximum time spend for leisre time or sports and household activites, were not even having a basic high school diploma.

Basically, Women having an education level of bachelor's tend to work ourside and that too in their young age from 20 to 64. The elderly women were busy doing household work or spending time on sports.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s broad subject and report some relevant features, including the 36.8 hours of leisure for women aged 15–19 and the high work figure for women with a bachelor’s degree or higher. However, the response only partially covers the data and its comparisons. The claim that women aged 45 and above spend more time on leisure than on work is broadly supported, but the statement that women aged 20–27 spend about 22 and 27 hours on work and sports misstates the age range and reverses the figures: the chart gives 22.1 hours of work and 32.7 of leisure for ages 20–24. The overview is also unclear, and the final claims about education and older women are too general or unsupported. Select key trends accurately and compare the age and education groups separately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has some organisation: it begins with an introduction and then moves through age-related observations before mentioning educational attainment. However, there is no clear overall progression from a concise overview to well-grouped supporting comparisons. The paragraph beginning “Basically” repeats earlier points rather than developing a distinct comparison, and the shift from age groups to education is abrupt. Linking phrases such as “That is” and “Basically” do not clearly show how the figures relate, while several claims are placed together without explaining their connection. Use a clear overview paragraph, then organise details into separate age and education comparisons, with accurate references such as “by contrast” or “whereas” to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the general subject, including “leisure and sports,” “work-related activities,” and “household.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or informal, which can make the meaning less clear. For example, “women in there young age group” is not an appropriate expression, and “work outside” introduces an interpretation that the chart does not provide. There are also spelling errors in “leisre” and “activites,” and repeated use of “spend more time” limits precision. Aim for accurate chart language such as “recorded,” “accounted for,” and “the highest figure,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response relies mainly on simple sentence patterns, with some attempts to combine ideas, but these are often faulty. For instance, “Women between the age of 20 and 27, they spend…” has a duplicated subject and an incomplete opening construction, while “The maximum time spend…” uses an incorrect verb form. Agreement and sentence boundaries also need attention in “The maximum time … were,” and the sentence beginning “The maximum working hours…” is awkwardly structured. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise writing complete subject–verb sentences, use past tense consistently when describing the 2009 data, and vary sentence structures only after checking that each clause is grammatically complete.
