Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response identifies a few relevant features, including the peak in leisure time and the low level of work among women aged 75 and over, and it reports some figures for younger age groups. However, the overview is incomplete and partly inaccurate: leisure is not the highest activity in every category, since working time is highest for women with a bachelor’s degree or higher, while household activities are not consistently the lowest. Most of the education data and several older age groups are omitted, so the main patterns across the chart are not adequately summarised. The description also focuses on individual figures rather than selecting and comparing the most important trends. A clearer overview and accurate comparisons across both age and education groups would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: the response begins with an introduction, gives an overview, and then presents examples using sequence markers such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore.” This gives the reader a basic sense of progression. However, the discussion does not develop into a clear comparison of the chart’s two categories, age and educational attainment, and the final sentence repeats a broad claim rather than drawing the main points together. Linking phrases are sometimes mechanical, and references such as “they” do not always make it clear which group is being discussed. Grouping related age figures together and treating education data in a separate paragraph would make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “average number of hours,” “working,” “leisure & sports,” and “household activities,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are awkward or imprecise, such as “in an elaborative manner,” “highest hours spend,” and “spend hours 6 to 9.” Spelling errors, including “otherhand” and “increse,” also reduce accuracy. Repeated use of “spend” and “hours” makes the account less flexible. Aim for natural chart-description collocations and precise verbs, for example “recorded,” “rose,” or “accounted for,” while checking spelling and avoiding unnecessary wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, but control is uneven, and errors occur in many sentences. For example, “the Leisure & sports is highest hours spend by women” has problems with article use, sentence structure, and verb form; “women of age 20 to 24 they spend” also has an unnecessary repeated subject. Agreement and tense are inconsistent, as in “household activities is 10,” while several phrases lack clear grammatical connections between the age group and the figures. Most sentences follow similar patterns, so the range is limited. Practise building accurate comparison sentences, such as “Women aged 75 and over spent 51.7 hours on leisure, compared with 1.3 hours on work-related activities.”
