Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response makes a relevant attempt to identify an overall feature, noting that leisure and sports time is highest among women aged 75 and over. However, the comparison that it is lowest for ages 35–44 is inaccurate: the chart’s lowest leisure figure is for women aged 25–34, at 28.6 hours. The response does not report the other activity categories or the educational-attainment data, and it gives no supporting figures or meaningful comparisons. It is also far below the required 150 words, with only 45 words submitted; the 15 words copied from the prompt are excluded from that count. To improve, provide a clear overview and select key trends and accurate figures from both chart sections.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.0
There is a basic attempt at organisation: the response begins with an introductory sentence and follows it with an overview introduced by “Overall.” This gives the reader a simple starting structure. However, the response stops after the isolated word “Working,” so there is no developed sequence of information, comparison, or conclusion. The phrase “while on the other hand” signals contrast, but the contrast is not clearly or accurately explained. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the main comparisons, then group related figures—for example, age patterns and education patterns—and connect them with clear transitions such as “by contrast” and “whereas.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small amount of task-relevant vocabulary, including “age groups,” “levels of education,” and “leisure and sports,” so its basic meaning is generally recognisable. However, the range is very limited for describing chart data: there are no terms for reporting figures, trends, or comparisons, and “number of average hours” is an awkward phrase. Several spelling errors—“weeek,” “higest,” “lesure,” and “grouup”—also reduce accuracy and polish. Build a more precise chart vocabulary, such as “hours spent,” “the highest figure,” “declined,” and “accounted for,” and check spelling carefully before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response shows an attempt at both a simple introductory statement and a more complex overview sentence, using “while” to connect contrasting information. However, grammatical control is uneven. In “The graph illustrate,” the singular subject requires “illustrates,” and “the highest number … is in the age group” is an awkwardly formed comparison that would be clearer as “the highest figure is among women aged 75 and over.” The overview also lacks a complete, clearly balanced comparison after “while on the other hand.” Most of the response relies on basic sentence patterns, so there is little evidence of a wider range. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and construct complete comparison sentences before adding more complex structures.
