Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar chart illustrates the average hours per week women dedicated to primary activities comparing between age groups and the level of education attained. Overall, it shows that women across the board spent more time enganging in leisure and sporting actvities regarless of age or educational background. As for working and work related activities younger women worked less and the number of hours increase as they grow and subsequently starts decreasing as they grow older and in comparison with the level of education women worked more as they further their studies and in contrast the more they worked the less they engaged in in household activities, whereas with the age group the older they get the more time they spent on household chores and eventually it dropped as they reached 75years and above.

The data shows that women who are 75years and older spent most of their time engaged in leisure and sports (51.7hrs) which is the highest and taking up over half of the week. Younger women(15-19) spent about 36.8hrs of their week participating in leisure and sporting activities and this number gradually declines as they get older, when they reach 20 - 24 it drops to 32.7hours and it continues this downward treand until they reach the age group of 45 - 54 when it will start to increase from 27.4hrs at age group 35 - 44 to 32.2hrs.In contrast the time awarded for leisure and sport by level of education grouping shows that the more women furthered their study the less time they had for leisure and sports. Women who had less than a highschool diploma spent 43.1hrs of their time in leisure activities, time then drops to 38.9% and women with a bachelor's or higher degree only spent 28.6hrs.

Regarding household activities younger womenby age group spent an average of 6hrs and the allocated time gradually increase as they grow with the peak being experienced at the 65 - 74 age group dedicating 21.1hrs of their time, however data shows that the more women advanced their education the less time they dedicated time to house chores, starting at 20hrs per week and gradually drops as the level increase recording the least amount of time 15.2hrs

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You provide an overview of the main patterns, noting that leisure is the largest activity overall, work rises and then falls with age, and household time generally increases with age. Several comparisons are supported with accurate figures, including leisure at 51.7 hours for women aged 75 and over and 43.1 hours for those with the least education. However, some key details are incomplete or inaccurate: the age-group leisure trend does not simply decline until 45–54, since it rises from 27.4 hours at 35–44 to 32.2 at 45–54, and the education comparison for leisure omits the 32.4-hour figure for women with some college. The overview also says household time drops at 75 and over but does not report the 19.6-hour figure. More precise coverage of these patterns would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an opening overview is followed by paragraphs on leisure and household activities. This gives the reader a general route through the information, and phrases such as “In contrast” help signal comparisons. However, the first paragraph is overloaded with several trends in one long sentence, making the overview difficult to follow. The leisure paragraph also shifts between age and education without a clear separation, while the final paragraph does not discuss working activities in detail despite their prominence in the overview. Some linking is mechanical or unclear, as in “time then drops” and “this downward trend until they reach.” Grouping each category consistently and using shorter, clearly connected comparisons would improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “leisure and sports,” “educational background,” “peak,” and “dedicated,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal reporting language, such as “allocated time” and “advanced their education.” However, some choices are imprecise or awkward: “time awarded for leisure” is not a natural collocation, and “taking up over half of the week” overstates the share of total weekly hours. Spelling errors such as “enganging,” “actvities,” “regarless,” and “treand” also reduce accuracy. Use standard chart-reporting phrases such as “spent,” “accounted for,” and “rose/fell,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple statements and longer complex sentences, including clauses with “whereas,” “however,” and “as.” The main comparisons are usually understandable, but some sentences contain several clauses joined without clear punctuation, particularly the overview sentence beginning “As for working…” and the long leisure comparison. There are also errors in sentence structure and agreement, for example “the number of hours increase” and “the more women furthered their study the less time they had.” Missing spaces and punctuation around figures, as in “32.2hrs.In contrast,” further affect readability. Break long sentences into shorter units, maintain consistent past-tense reporting, and check subject–verb agreement and punctuation.
