Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the chart’s general subject and report some figures accurately, including the 15–19 group’s 36.8 hours of leisure, 6.9 hours of work and 6.0 hours of household activities, as well as figures for ages 20–24. However, the response only partially addresses the task: it covers two age groups and omits the remaining age groups and all educational-attainment data. The overview is also substantially inaccurate, referring to watching videos and social media, which the chart does not measure; it should instead summarise patterns in work, leisure and household activities. The response is 122 words, below the required 150. To improve, give a chart-based overview and compare the main trends across both sets of categories.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation: an opening statement is followed by an overview and then a paragraph with figures for two age groups. The comparison signalled by “If we compare” also helps the reader recognise the intended relationship between the data. However, progression is limited because the response stops after discussing the first two age categories, leaving the chart’s broader comparisons unexplained. The overview’s claims about videos and social media do not connect logically to the chart, and the long final sentence combines several figures without clear separation. Use a complete sequence—introduction, accurate overview, then grouped comparisons—and connect related figures with clear, consistent linking phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “mean numbers of hours,” “age groups,” “educational attainment,” and “working related.” However, word choice is often inaccurate or informal for an academic chart summary. “Watching videos,” “social media,” and “entertainment” misrepresent the chart’s categories, while “spending time on” is less precise than describing hours spent in an activity. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “diferent,” “amongst” misspelled as “amongs,” “viedo’s,” and “lisure,” which make the response harder to read. Use the chart’s labels—“leisure and sports,” “work-related activities,” and “household activities”—and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and a longer comparison, but the range is limited and errors recur. For example, “the mean numbers of hours by female … uses” has an incorrect subject–verb relationship and an awkward grammatical construction; “Female spend” also lacks correct agreement and article use. In the final sentence, “the other age group from 20 to 24 they spend” repeats the subject, and the comparison is not formed cleanly. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas in “graph, the” and “Overall, there.” Practise accurate sentence patterns such as “Women aged 15–19 spent…” and separate comparisons into shorter, complete sentences.
