You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience·and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence. Write at least 250 words.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
These days, an increasing number of people are becoming overweight and therefore coming down with related health issues. While some believe that junk food advertising is not the cause of this phenomenon and it should not be banned, I would argue that it is.
First and foremost, it is worth admitting that commercials is not the only reason for people to consume fast food. There are a variety of other factors, such as the limited time people have and the convenience of pre-cooked food. For instance, even though some employees have never watched any junk food advertisements, they still choose to purchase instant noodles for their dinner, which is a common phenomenon in China. Not only can it help workers save more time but it is also a cost-effective option.
On the other hand, the influence of advertising is undeniable, especially when it comes to younger generations who do not have enough knowledge to differentiate between healthy and unhealthy diets. For example, if children come across junk food advertising videos while scrolling on their phones, they will naturally want to try them out. At the same time, it has become far easier for people to purchase junk food because they can simply click several buttons and submit the order. For these reasons, younger generations are overconsuming ultra-processed food without having any healthy diets to counteract the impact of such food.
In conclusion, some people believe that advertising does not bring a negative impact on people's health because they are focusing on other aspects of people's lifestyle, whereas I strongly believe that we need to be aware of the influence of advertisements because younger generations' purchase decisions are influenced by them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as the mention of instant noodles in China and the impact of digital advertising on children. However, the development of the arguments could be more nuanced. While the position is clear, the discussion on the 'anti-ban' side is somewhat brief compared to the 'pro-ban' side. To reach a higher band, ensure that the counter-arguments are explored with equal depth and that the conclusion synthesizes the points more effectively rather than just restating the position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'On the other hand', and 'For instance' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. The progression of ideas is clear, although the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally accurate, and the essay maintains a consistent focus throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'ultra-processed food', 'counteract', and 'phenomenon'. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'coming down with' (usually used for illnesses like the flu) instead of 'developing' or 'suffering from'. Additionally, 'commercials is' is a subject-verb agreement error that affects lexical precision. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and ensure that word choices are contextually precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'commercials is' (should be 'commercials are') and 'without having any healthy diets' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). While these errors are present, they do not impede communication. You have attempted complex structures, such as conditional sentences ('if children come across... they will naturally want...'), which shows a good level of control. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining the use of articles will help improve your accuracy.
