Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, which is a requirement of the task. However, the ideas are under-developed and lack sufficient supporting evidence or depth. The explanation regarding why advertisements influence youngsters is repetitive and simplistic. Furthermore, the response is under the 250-word minimum, which limits the ability to fully develop the arguments as required by the band descriptors. To improve, you should expand on your points with specific examples or logical reasoning rather than repeating the same ideas in different ways.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical (e.g., 'The primary reason', 'The second reason', 'Neverthesles', 'Morever'). The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the logical progression is hindered by the lack of clear, sophisticated linking words. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the flow of the argument. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help create a more natural and coherent flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'major problem', 'eating the same thing', and 'make body fit' are somewhat simplistic for an academic essay. There are also issues with word choice and spelling, such as 'adds' (instead of 'ads' or 'advertisements'), 'Neverthesles', 'campany', and 'heir'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little attempt to use less common or more precise lexical items. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more academic vocabulary and ensuring correct spelling and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the fat is the major problem', 'advertisements is the major issue', 'children feels craving', and 'this may loss many people'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences lacking proper structure or clarity. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and sentence variety will be beneficial.
