Student answer (Band 6.5)

The connecttion of obesity with junk food advertisments has become a widely debated issue. Some people believe that obesity is directly linked to food advertisments while others disagree with this opnion. I firmly agree with the later view and considers that the root cause of obesity is not the advertisments but the lack of ability of self control.

The people whole blames junk food advertisments for the fatness have their own reasons. They believe that the high quality streaming ads everywhere around social media potraying hot deals in exciting prices can easily catch the people's attention. However this makes the individuals specifically the young generation to break their structured diet plan and have junk food most of the times. So, this is how adverstisments acts as an attentation trap towards fast food which furher contributes to obesity.

However, other people including myself considers that advertisments have no direct or indirect linkage with obesity. Every food stakeholder should have right to advertise their products in an possible legal way. Moreover banning advertisments of food industry will give a unfair advantage to everyone else in the market. Infact the corrosponding awareness campaigns should promoted by the respective governments in parallel. These campaigns should raise awareness among people regarding the impacts of junk food on their health and lifestyle. This is show self control can be developed among people through literacy.

To conclude both groups have their valid opnions. Having said that restricting one group from marketing is unfair with them. This should be handles by developing self control among individuals through awareness sessions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument against banning advertisements focuses on market fairness rather than exploring the complexity of the obesity epidemic itself. The points made are relevant but could be extended with more specific evidence or examples to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, meeting the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by minor errors in sentence structure. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to achieve a more natural, sophisticated flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'stakeholder' and 'corrosponding', though the latter is misspelled. Some word choices are slightly imprecise, such as 'fatness' instead of 'obesity' or 'health issues'. While the range is sufficient to communicate the message, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. Spelling errors, such as 'advertisments' and 'opnion', occur frequently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'advertisments acts', 'everyone else... considers') and word forms (e.g., 'the later view'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar occasionally distracts the reader. While the meaning is always clear, the lack of consistent accuracy in complex structures prevents a higher score.
