Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the argument against advertising is supported with examples like social media influencers, the counter-argument regarding the benefits of advertising is underdeveloped and lacks depth. The introduction is slightly confusing due to phrasing issues, such as the misuse of 'pensive concern'. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task, but the arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The position is clear, but the supporting evidence is sometimes repetitive or lacks logical flow.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often hindered by awkward transitions and grammatical errors. While cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'To commence with', 'However', 'In the conclusion'), they are sometimes used incorrectly or mechanically. For instance, the transition 'In the prime one' is unclear. Referencing is occasionally problematic, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of ideas. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks the necessary cohesion to ensure a smooth reading experience.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'pensive concern' (likely meaning 'pressing concern'), 'bloated' (used incorrectly for obesity), and 'wrong creators' (likely meaning 'influencers'). The student attempts to use some academic vocabulary, but the lack of precision and frequent collocation errors impede the clarity of the message. To improve, the student needs to focus on using words in their correct context and expanding their range of topic-specific vocabulary related to health and marketing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Their are apparent reason', 'Younger generation totally influence'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, which makes the text feel disjointed. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, verb tenses, and ensuring that subjects and verbs agree before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
