Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0

The response fails to address the specific prompt regarding junk food advertising and obesity. Instead, it uses a generic template with placeholders like [TOPIC], which suggests the essay was not written for this specific task. Furthermore, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely limits the development of ideas. Because the content is entirely off-topic and fails to engage with the core debate of the prompt, it cannot be considered a successful response to the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is structured with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which provides a basic framework. However, the logical progression is severely undermined by the fact that the content is generic and does not relate to the prompt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However' and 'In conclusion', but they feel mechanical because the underlying ideas lack substance and relevance. The paragraphing is present, but the lack of a coherent argument makes the overall flow ineffective.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is repetitive and generic, largely due to the use of placeholders. Phrases like 'growing influence', 'modern society', and 'significant challenges' are common but do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary relevant to the specific topic of obesity or advertising. There is no attempt to use topic-specific terminology, which is expected at higher bands. The language remains at a very basic, functional level throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical structures are generally simple and repetitive. While there are few major errors in basic sentence construction, the range of complex structures is very limited. The essay relies on standard, predictable sentence patterns. Because the content is so brief and generic, it is difficult to assess the student's ability to handle complex ideas or sophisticated grammatical forms. The accuracy is acceptable for simple sentences, but the lack of variety prevents a higher score.
