Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding the impact of advertising on youngsters and the potential economic consequences for businesses are mentioned but lack depth and specific supporting evidence. The essay is quite brief in its analysis, and the conclusion is somewhat abrupt. To reach a higher band, you need to expand on your points with more detailed explanations and concrete examples, ensuring that the discussion is balanced and fully explored rather than just briefly stated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by frequent errors in cohesive devices and sentence structure. While some linking words like 'Firstly' and 'In conclusion' are used, they are often followed by awkward phrasing that disrupts the flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between ideas feels mechanical rather than natural. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices correctly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that connects logically to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'pensive concern' (likely meant 'pressing concern') and 'supiled' (supplied). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. You rely on basic terms and struggle with collocations, such as 'give the different offers'. To improve, you should aim to use a broader range of topic-specific vocabulary and focus on learning the correct collocations for common phrases to avoid unnatural phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('obesity become', 'junk food companies gives'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence construction ('In this regards', 'the my opinion'). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in complex attempts. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
