Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 99 words. Because the response is so brief, it fails to address the task requirements adequately. While you mention both sides of the argument, the ideas are not developed, and there is no supporting evidence or examples provided. Furthermore, you do not clearly state your own opinion as requested by the prompt. To improve, you must expand each point with explanations and relevant examples, ensuring you meet the minimum length requirement to allow for a full discussion of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks a clear structure. It consists of a single, short paragraph that does not allow for logical progression or the development of arguments. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas together; for example, the transition between the general statement and the specific point about children is abrupt. To improve, you should use separate paragraphs for each viewpoint and your own opinion, and employ linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'on the other hand' to guide the reader through your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'major reason' and 'attractive to children' are functional but lack the range and precision expected at higher bands. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'positive and negative drawbacks', which is a contradiction in terms. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to health, marketing, and public policy, and focus on using collocations more accurately to express your ideas with greater sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. For instance, 'There and many positive' should be 'There are many', and 'there parents' should be 'their parents'. The sentence structures are simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of homophones like 'there/their'. Additionally, practice combining simple sentences into complex ones using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
