Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument regarding junk food advertising. However, the development of ideas is limited and often repetitive. While you provide a personal opinion, the arguments lack depth and supporting evidence. For instance, the point about businesses needing advertising to survive is relevant, but it is not expanded upon with clear examples. The structure is also problematic, as the essay is presented as a single block of text rather than distinct paragraphs, which hinders the clear presentation of your position. To improve, ensure each viewpoint is explored in a separate paragraph with specific, logical support.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks paragraphing, which is a fundamental requirement for a formal IELTS essay. The flow of ideas is disjointed, and the transition between sentences is often abrupt. There is a heavy reliance on simple conjunctions like 'and' and 'but,' with very few cohesive devices used to link ideas logically. For example, the transition from discussing advertising to suggesting government intervention is sudden and confusing. To achieve a higher score, you must organize your response into clear paragraphs (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion) and use a wider variety of linking words such as 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' or 'on the other hand' to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on informal or inaccurate phrasing. Words like 'tommy disease' (likely meaning 'stomach' or 'health' issues) and 'baad quality things' are imprecise and detract from the academic tone required for Task 2. There are also frequent spelling errors, such as 'restourants,' 'advertisment,' and 'healty,' which occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to health, marketing, and public policy, and practice using these words in their correct context to express your ideas more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical range is limited, consisting primarily of simple sentences with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and sentence structure. For example, 'the should be make a time' and 'the banned of advertisment is not a good idea' contain significant errors that make the meaning difficult to follow. Punctuation is almost entirely absent, which makes the text difficult to parse. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which are necessary for higher band scores. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and the use of articles, before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
