Student answer (Band 6.5)
Obesity has become a serious issue any many societies, and some people argue that advertising for unhealthy food is cause of this problem. Other, However, I believe that such advertising has little influence on obesity and should not prohibited. although I believe that restricting junk food advertising can help reduce obesity.
Firstly. advertisements can make food that are high in sugar, salt and fat appear attractive, particularly to children and young people. Companies often use color packaging, popular celebrities and entertaining advertising to encourage consumer to purchase these products. For example, a child who repeatedly sees advertisements for burgers, soft drinks and chocolate may become more interested in these products and ask their parents to buy them. As a result, frequent exposure to such advertising may increase the consumption of unhealthy food and contribute to weight gain.
Advertising is only one factor. People's lifestyle and personal choices also matter. On the other hand, others argue that banning junk food advertising would not solve the obesity problem because obesity has many different causes. People become overweight for various reasons, including a lack of exercise, unhealthy eating habits, large portion sizes and busy lifestyles. Therefore, advertising alone cannot be considered the main cause of obesity. For instance, an adult may regularly consume fast food because it is convenient and affordable, even if they rarely see advertisements for it.
In conclusion, while some people believe that junk food advertising contributes significantly to obesity and should therefore be banned, others argue that personal lifestyle choices are more important. I believe that advertising does contribute to unhealthy eating habits, particularly among children, but strict restrictions would be more appropriate than a complete ban.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The position is consistent throughout the essay. Ideas are relevant, such as the influence of advertising on children versus the role of personal lifestyle choices. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the argument regarding lifestyle choices could be further extended with more specific evidence or examples beyond just 'convenience and affordability'. The conclusion effectively synthesizes the arguments and reiterates the writer's stance. Overall, the task is fulfilled, though the depth of analysis could be improved to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'For example', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some mechanical errors in cohesion, such as the fragmented sentence 'Firstly.' and the awkward transition 'Other, However, I believe...'. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother in places to avoid a slightly disjointed feel. The progression of ideas is evident, but the use of cohesive devices is sometimes a bit formulaic.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'consumption', 'unhealthy eating habits', and 'prohibited'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'color packaging' (should be 'colorful packaging') and 'encouraging consumer' (should be 'consumers'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but there is a lack of more sophisticated or 'less common' lexical items that would demonstrate a higher level of control. Spelling is generally accurate, but the overall lexical range remains at a functional level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'food that are high' (subject-verb agreement), 'is cause of this problem' (missing article), and 'should not prohibited' (missing auxiliary verb). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of full stops where commas would be more appropriate, such as 'Firstly. advertisements...'. These errors do not generally impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. A greater variety of error-free complex structures is needed to move into the 7.0 band.
