Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the modern era, overweight is considered as a hazard. Some people argue that marketing of heavily processed food largely contributes for this problem and should be banned. However, others feel that junk food isn't the main culprit and must not stop its production. I firrmly agree that junk food is one of the main reasons for obesity and their advertisments must be banned.
Junk food marketing's mostly target children. Heavily processed foods and drinks not only disrupts the harmones in their body but acts as a catalyst in storing fat. The artificial colors, salts and extra sugars they use in making, enhances the taste making it hard to stop its consumption. Their addiction to junk food is making kids obese. For example, most of the cases of heart attacks and fatty liver in hospitals are caused by obesity.
However, some people argue that junk food does not contribute to problem and should not stop its marketing. They say that people who are getting fat should have strong will power and stop eating junk food rather than complaining on their advertisements. People can choose healthier alternatives that also tastes good. For example, ragi chips and wheat crisps can be used as healthy alternatives instead of regular potato chips.
In conclusion, although people can opt to helathy alternatives I strongly believe that prevention is better than cure. Instead of choosing other options, banning junk food advertisements will help children focus on their health and educate themselves on choosing a healthy lifestyle. So, I stand with people who blame the marketing and it must be banned.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, presenting both sides of the argument and a clear personal position. The ideas are relevant, though the development is somewhat uneven. For instance, the argument regarding children's health is well-supported with examples of medical conditions, but the counter-argument could be more robustly explored. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the writer's stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that the counter-argument is given equal weight and depth as the primary argument, and avoid minor generalizations about 'most cases' of illness being caused by obesity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'For example', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at topic-specific language like 'heavily processed', 'catalyst', and 'alternatives'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'overweight is considered as a hazard' (should be 'obesity is considered a health hazard') and 'marketing... largely contributes for this problem' (should be 'contributes to'). The spelling error 'firrmly' and the misuse of 'advertisments' also detract from the overall quality. Expanding the range of vocabulary to include more sophisticated collocations would improve the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the precision of the writing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('marketing... target children' should be 'targets') and incorrect preposition usage ('complaining on their advertisements' should be 'complaining about'). Punctuation is mostly correct, but the sentence structure occasionally feels slightly disjointed. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of complex sentence forms to avoid repetitive structures.
