Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views and providing an opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The arguments regarding the link between advertising and obesity are simplistic and lack depth or specific examples. The opinion is stated, but the reasoning is not well-supported, and the essay struggles to maintain a formal academic tone. The discussion of the opposing view is somewhat confused, making it difficult to follow the logic of the argument. To improve, you should focus on developing each point with clear, logical explanations rather than repeating the same idea in different ways.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. Paragraphing is inconsistent, and the flow of ideas is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of logical progression. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'Moreover', 'In nutshell'), they are often applied mechanically or incorrectly. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the two viewpoints is abrupt. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and use linking words more naturally to connect your ideas, rather than just placing them at the start of sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice, such as 'dices ed' (likely meaning 'diseases') and 'fatness' (instead of 'obesity'). The repetition of basic words like 'junk food', 'effect', and 'meal' restricts the range. Some phrases are unnatural, such as 'the mother of dices ed' and 'on the daily bases'. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your vocabulary to include more precise academic terms and focus on correct collocations, such as 'consuming fast food' instead of 'consuming the burgers'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede readability. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'oily things would be affect'), incorrect verb forms, and missing articles. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, leading to confusion. Punctuation is also problematic, with erratic spacing and misuse of commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and article usage.
