Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments are repetitive and lack depth; for instance, the point about advertising is mentioned several times without providing specific evidence or a nuanced discussion on the link between marketing and obesity. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, you should aim to expand on your points with more detailed explanations and concrete examples, ensuring that each paragraph contributes significantly to your overall argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'In contrast' and 'Moreover', they are often used incorrectly or in a repetitive manner. The transition between the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion is abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of the argument. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one, creating a more cohesive and unified piece of writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'huge', 'problem', and 'junk food'. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and word formation, such as 'prospective' instead of 'perspective' or 'propose', 'know a days' instead of 'nowadays', and 'suffring'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To achieve a higher band score, you need to expand your range of vocabulary and use more precise, academic language. Focus on learning collocations and synonyms to avoid repeating the same words throughout your essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('Doctors also advice', 'everyone want'), tense usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, which makes the text difficult to read. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often inaccurate. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and correct verb forms. Proofreading your work for common errors like missing articles or incorrect pluralization will also help improve the overall accuracy of your writing.
