Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, containing only 85 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The essay fails to develop the arguments for both views or provide a clear, supported opinion as requested by the prompt. Because the response is incomplete and stops abruptly after only two sentences of body content, it cannot be considered a fully developed essay. To improve, you must ensure you address all parts of the prompt with sufficient length and depth, providing specific examples and evidence for each perspective discussed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or logical progression. While there is a basic attempt to introduce the topic and use a transition like 'On the one hand', the essay lacks a clear structure. The ideas are not developed enough to assess the use of cohesive devices or paragraphing effectively. To improve, you need to structure your essay with a clear introduction, distinct body paragraphs for each viewpoint, and a concluding summary, ensuring that ideas flow logically from one to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'major reason for obesity' and 'causes many heart diseases' are functional but lack the range and precision expected at higher bands. There is no attempt to use less common or academic vocabulary. To improve, focus on incorporating topic-specific terminology related to health, public policy, and advertising, and try to vary your word choices to avoid repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. For example, 'some people thinks' is a subject-verb agreement error, and 'junk food is not the only one reason' is phrased awkwardly. The sentence structure is simplistic, and the punctuation is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and sentence construction. Once you have a solid foundation, work on incorporating a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, to demonstrate greater control.
