Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, which is a requirement of the task. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding advertising are somewhat repetitive and lack depth, focusing more on street food hygiene than the psychological impact of advertising. The position is clear, but the supporting evidence is underdeveloped and lacks specific examples or logical depth. The essay tends to over-generalize about 'youngsters' and 'street food' without fully engaging with the prompt's focus on the role of advertising in obesity. To improve, you should provide more specific, analytical arguments regarding the influence of marketing on consumer behavior.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'to embark on' and 'to commence with' are used incorrectly to introduce paragraphs, as they do not fit the context of the arguments. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical flow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between the two sides of the argument is abrupt. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'hobbyist of the junk food' instead of 'fond of junk food' or 'lack of the laziness' which is contradictory. The range of vocabulary is basic, and there is little attempt to use less common or more precise lexical items. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning collocations (e.g., 'sedentary lifestyle' instead of 'laziness') and using more academic vocabulary to express your opinions and arguments more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, such as run-on sentences and fragments (e.g., 'its a cause of the lack of the laziness of the people'). Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, and there are frequent errors in the use of articles and prepositions. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading for common errors in tense and word order.
